Background I’m an extremely experienced carpenter and I’ve been in business for over 30 years in Northern Virginia. The original name of my company was Vincent J. Short Company and several years ago I formed an LLC under the name of New Horizons Building and Designs. I hold a Class A Builders Contractors license in Virginia and I build the correct way.
I’ve completed all kinds of renovations. I renovated the famous “O” Street House, Walnut Hill Estates and Car Barn in Washington, D.C. in the 1980s for O. Roy Chalk and I was his personal friend and assistant. Mr. Chalk arranged for my training of all phases of construction and appointed me as working superintendent in charge of his construction business answering only to him. I’ve also built a bar at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. and the bar and furniture for the Time Life Building in Alexandria, Virginia; remolded house for MGM for the movie “Contact” in Herndon, Va.; And much more.

1981-84 - D.C. Realty and Development (O. Roy Chalk)
1984-89 - CP One, Responsible for building million $ homes turnkey from layout to finish
1989-99 - Building homes, additions and modulars
1996-2002 - Took care of warranty work for Engle Homes, Northern Virginia and built additions, kitchens, decks and finished basements
2002-2007 - Bought dilapidated homes and renovated to resell. Built several custom log cabin homes; performed carpentry for the Sterling United Methodist Church, Sterling, Va.
2007-present - Built several kitchens, performed several renovations, odd jobs and work in preparation for a start-up nonprofit in Western N.C.
Honors Board of Trustees, Sterling United Methodist Church; judge for the carpentry competition of the Virginia SkillsUSA Championships (then VICA Skill Olympics); owner and manager of a private Tae Kwon Do martial arts school; part owner DeShong’s Gift Back, Inc., a start-up nonprofit located in Western Carolina; Recently trained as an Emergency Response Team member to assist in early response to domestic catastrophes.

I’ve built approximately 20 homes turnkey to finish; completed approximately 15 home renovations; built approximately 200 decks; renovated approximately 30 kitchens; built 30-40 additions; and built several restaurants, bars and set and completed over 100 modulars.
Ability to read blueprints and draw blueprints by hand; superb leader; Virginia Class A Builders License. Completed a course in bartending in Falls Church, Va.; 35 years of carpentry experience finish & framing.
